Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Litany of Remembrance
God of Compassion
In the rising of the sun and in its going down.
We remember them
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter.
We remember them
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of the summer.
We remember them
In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn.
We remember them
In the beginning of the year and when it ends.
We remember them
When we are lost and sick at heart.
We remember them
When we have joys we yearn to share.
We remember them
So long as we live, they too shall live.
We will remember them
Amen
Yesterday we gathered in the hall as a school community to show our respect to those men and women who have served Australia in the armed forces. Our service was led by Indie Smedts and Logan Jones from Year 6. Members of our school community also laid a wreath at the Shrine of Remembrance during the 11am service.

Girls Year 6 Basketball
Congratulations to the Year 6 Basketball team who represented our school at the Regional Basketball on Thursday 31st October and have now progressed to the State Final in Melbourne on Tuesday 19th November.
Good luck to our girls and their supporters.
Boys Year 6 Basketball
On Thursday 31st October the Year 6 boys travelled to Colac to represent St. Josephs in Regional Basketball.
In our first game, we faced St Thomas More from Ballarat. It was a tough match, but unfortunately, St Thomas More came on top by five points because Oscar hit a lucky three to finish the game.
Our second match was against St Mary’s Colac. We had a good win and the team shared the ball around well and our teamwork helped us get across the line.
We managed to get into the semi-final which was against Buninyong Primary school. It was close from start to finish but they won in the end to send us home.
Thanks to Frank and Joel who helped out as coaches and all the parents for making it happen.
We tried our best to get to states but we were unsuccessful but we were still representing our school well.
That’s how we do it at St Joseph’s.
Cole Burleigh and Zavier Nelson, Year 6 students
Parents and carers play an important role in supporting their children to be safe online and on social media. You can help your children safely navigate their digital world and educate them to avoid harmful online experiences. You can explore websites, games, apps and social media together and set some rules and boundaries.
Your support and guidance can give your children the knowledge to make sound decisions online and confidence to ask for help when they need it. It is also important to stay informed about online safety.
The Department of Education recognises this important issue and has developed fact sheets about supports to help keep students safe online and what to do if they are involved in an online incident.
The fact sheets contain links to evidence-based information on supporting positive and safe online experiences, signs a child or young person might need support, what to do if something unsafe happens online, and where to reach out to for more support.
To access the fact sheets, refer to the Safe Socials webpage. The fact sheets are available in 19 community languages.
The government is also launching public consultation on age limits for social media.
You and your children can share your experiences to inform proposed changes via an online survey, before 5 pm on Friday 1 November 2024. For more information on the survey and to take part, refer to Proposed changes to social media age limits on the Engage Victoria website.
If you have any queries about this information, you can contact the department by email: bullystoppers@education.vic.gov.au
Thank you.

New members needed for 2023-2024
We encourage all parents to consider joining the School Advisory Council in 2025 and 2026.
This group provides an opportunity to be involved in the life of your child’s school through engagement in school policies, finances, teaching and learning and Catholic School Culture. If you are curious we would love to talk to you about the role.
The School Advisory Council meets once per term, usually in week 5.
Our current Chairperson is Mrs Mel Happ, our Deputy Chairperson is Mr Joel Saywell. They are joined by Mrs Jessica McCarthy, Mrs Claire Nailon, Mrs Tracey Harris, Mrs Andrea Welsh and Liz Noonan is currently our staff representative. Also included is Mr Matthew O’Brien (Principal) and Mrs Cathy Duynhoven (Business Manager).
At the end of this school year 2 of these members will finish their tenure of 4 years and we are seeking expressions of interest from our parent community to fill these vacancies to commence in 2025.
If you are interested in joining the School Advisory Council please email Cathy Duynhoven on cduyn@sjwarrnambool.catholic.edu.au stating your current role and interests, and what you believe you could bring to this committee. If you have any questions and would like to discuss this first you may call either Cathy or Matthew O’Brien for an informal chat first.
